Pupil’s e-card

Introduction of pupil’s e-card.
In 2013 Riga started the introduction of the pupil’s e-cards, which combine the functions of both the pupil’s certificate and the e-ticket for transportation.

Passengers appreciate the advantages of e-ticket.
Five years after the introduction of the electronic payments system in Riga public transport, a very large majority of passengers believe that e-tickets are modern, convenient and easy-to-use.

Mykoob cooperation

Rīgas Karte in cooperation with Mykoob opens a new project in Latvia.
It is now possible to keep tracks about pupil's safety and school attendance with a personalized e-ticket

Payment for trips in trains

Starting from 01.10.2013 – trains have been included into the transportation system as additional operator.

E-talons = pupils card

Since 2012 e-talons also serves as pupil’s ID, school entrance card, and meals payment card.
It is branded as "Skolena e karte" in Riga.

E-talons = City Guide card

CityGuideCARD in cooperation with Rigas Karte has created the tourist's privileges card for discount in many participating shops and venues, while being a fully fledged e-talons for public transportation in Riga.

E-talons – transportation card for particular categories of passengers

Based on excellent results achieved in Riga, we plan to develop our ticketing solution to more cities and intercity transportation in Latvia.

E-talons for welfare department social services

Multifunctional e-talons can be used for warm meals distribution to low-income groups.

E-ticket system

The electronic ticketing system in Riga city has been successfully working since March 1, 2009.

Our Client is Riga public transport operator: «Rigas Satiksme», a 100% municipality owned company.

Fleet:

Tramways (224 tramways, 9 routes);
Trolleybuses (267 trolleybuses, 19 routes);
Buses (432 buses, 53 routes);
4860 parking places

Ridership's statistics for 2013:

Urban Buses: 67 151 142
Trolleybuses: 47 217 521

Trains: 222 180
Mini-buses: 816 120
Total: 148 107 585

When Rigas Karte was launched, the ticketing in Riga public transports was:

- old fashioned
- based on paper tickets
- with limited control on sales
- with no reliable statistics on passengers trips

Today Riga public transport ticketing is recognized as the most modern in all Eastern Europe.

By adding new businesses since our starts in 2009, our turnover has reached 15 million Euros in 2013. We managed to be profitable since our second year which has already allowed us to transform our transportation card into a multi-application card in Latvia.

In Riga, nearly 50% of the population have our card in their pocket. Their satisfaction level has constantly increased over the years and now reaches 88% (according to SKDS research data).

Main functionalities of e-ticket system:

OPEN TECHNOLOGIES
This is the main trend in e-ticketing worldwide: to be open to various types of smart cards, smart tickets, contactless bank cards, mobile phones i.e. to accept the preferred payments means of the passengers.
Multimodality
Open to various means of transport: buses, trams, trolleybuses, trains, regional routes buses, microbuses, taxi, park&ride system etc...
Multi-operator
Able to manage data of various transport operators (Rigas Satiksme, Pasazieru Vilciens, Rigas Mikroautobuses) by guaranteeing the data integrity and confidentiality between various operators
Interoperable
We manage the clearing of operations between our various clients who share e-talons as their e-ticket

We made a technological revolution to be the first country on ex-soviet union territory to invest in such a modern
